The Clifton Park Area
Located in Saratoga County is the suburban city of Clifton Park, New York. The area was first settled in the 1600’s and it was named by Nanning Harmansen who requested the land patent that was known as the Cliftons Park Patent. In 1723, town was occupied by a small population of just twenty residents, and was originally named, Canastigione. The nearby Mohawk River, which defines the southern boundary, would become a popular ferry way during this time.
In 1828, the city would be established as Clifton, and renamed to its present day name of Clifton Park in 1829. It was the last city to be included in Saratoga County. Local highways in the area include Interstate 87 and U.S. Route 9, which run north and south; and New York State Route 146, which runs east and west. The city is approximately 20 miles north of Albany, NY.
